Perhaps you think Ikebana is only for the demur, gentle, artistic soul. Perhaps you picture a beautiful, young woman with long fingers, alabaster skin and fluttering sleeves. Perhaps when you think of a “school,” you imagine iron bars, cruel scorn and crushing volumes of memorization.
All, not Ikebana.
Ikebana is a meditation for those of us who cannot sit motionless in the lotus position. And, sometimes, when the materials are uncooperative, when stems break, flowers droop, scissors pinch and water spills, Ikebana can, frankly, just piss you off.
But, as with most things of value, the bad days are the ones that teach you the most.
