Once again, ikebana classes are set to begin at COCC, here in Bend, OR. (For info, click here.)
Who would have thought that a casual floral arrangement set upon a Buddhist altar some 600 years ago would have inspired an international movement that has made its way even to our small parcel of earth in Central Oregon?
It may seem counter-intuitive that my favorite ikebana seasons are fall and winter, given that we are working with flowers, but the wistfulness of a summer's festival of color fading into peaceful slumber is, to me, a moment to be relished and celebrated.
Last fall, we had such a great time with the colorful leaves, fading fruits and bare branches. I look forward to an encore performance.
As always, we'll be welcoming continuing students and eager beginners with a review of the basics and a host of new challenges to spark creativity and inspire.
The session will consist of four classes held Sundays from 1-3 p.m. We’ll start on October 13, and end November 10 with a Thanksgiving arrangement. Class size is limited and there are only a few spaces left, so if you’d like to attend, please sign up here.
